You might constantly hear how Spring Maintenance is so important to the life of your air conditioner, how it saves you money, or how it makes your air conditioner run more efficiently, or how it can prevent breakdowns of your air conditioner in the height of summer heat. But you may be wondering, “What really happens during Spring Check Up anyway?” Well, just keep reading to find out all the important steps Cool Change takes while preparing your Raleigh air conditioner for Spring.

  1. Clean Outdoor Coil
  2. At Cool Change, we believe the most important way to prepare your air conditioner for summer is to have a clean outdoor coil. We take the extra steps to take your unit apart, so we can really get into your air conditioner to get it clean. At Cool Change, we use a special pressure washer with chemicals to get that coil extra clean. Other companies just come out there with a hose and sprinkle some water on the coil. That does not clean your coil properly. And a healthy coil equals a healthy air conditioner. Check out our YouTube channel for before and after videos on how we clean the coils.

  3. Check Capacitor Levels
  4. Capacitors are like short-term batteries, and they store energy. They send jolts to the motors to make them start or keep running. During spring maintenance, Cool Change will come and check your capacitor levels to make sure they are within factory specifications. If not, we can replace them during spring maintenance to ensure your air conditioner keeps running. Making sure your capacitors are working properly is so important because if your motor continues to try and start, it will burn up the motor, which can be a major repair. Weak capacitors can also damage your compressor, which is an even bigger repair. Cool Change can determine if your capacitor is weak and about to die before it damages these major components of your air conditioner.

  5. Change Air Filters
  6. If you have air filters on hand, we will change them for you. You might think, “ Well, I can just change those myself”. And you can, but you would be surprised how many customers don’t change their air filters frequently. We understand your life gets busy, and changing air filters is the last thing on your mind. Keeping those air filters changed regularly is so important for your air conditioner. It keeps it clean and keeps your air conditioner from having to work so hard.

  7. Check Refrigerant Levels
  8. Another thing Cool Change does during your Raleigh Spring Maintenance is check your refrigerant levels in your air conditioner. An air conditioner can have too much or not enough refrigerant. If your air conditioner does not have enough refrigerant, that means there is a leak somewhere in the system. You will need to get that leak repaired before adding refrigerant. Your air conditioner does not use up refrigerant, so that means it is escaping somehow. The air conditioner could also have too much refrigerant. This could happen because another company put too much refrigerant in your system and overcharged it. Whether your refrigerant level is too low or too high, Cool Change can make the correct adjustments to ensure your air conditioner is performing at its peak proficiency.

  9. Vacuum Condensate Drain
  10. During Spring Maintenance, the technician will vacuum your drain lines. Drain lines remove excess water and moisture made during the air conditioning process. Having a clear drain line is important to ensure your air conditioner is working properly. If your condensate drain line is clogged, it could cause your air conditioner to shut down. It could also overflow and ruin your air conditioner with excess water. If the water sits in the drain line long enough, it could create mold, making the air harmful to breathe in. Cool Change will get those drain lines clean so your Air Conditioner can keep your house cool during those hot Raleigh summers.

  11. Tighten Electrical Connections
  12. Loose electrical connections can cause big safety issues in your Raleigh air conditioner. A loose connection can cause high temperatures, and there is also a possibility of a fire. While performing spring maintenance, the HVAC technician will look for loose connections and tighten them as needed so your air conditioning unit will keep you cool and safe. Another thing a technician will check for is loose or frayed wiring. This also causes a safety hazard and can cause your air conditioner to shut down. Cool Change can make sure your unit has the correct electrical connections so your air conditioner works properly.

These are just some of the things that Cool Change does when performing spring maintenance. Spring maintenance is so important for the life of your unit. And it also saves you money!
